Is Meratol A Proven Weight Loss Supplement?
A sincere welcome to you at my Meratol Report. My Name is Suzie and I have a personal interest in this product as I’ve tried every diet on the block and I was as keen as you are to find out whether or not it works as it is claimed to. I wanted to know what’s in the product, does it work or is it yet another scam preying on those of us who are so desperate to lose weight that we’ll try anything? That’s what this report is about, so let’s begin by examining the claims made for Meratol.
What are the Claims for Weight Loss with Meratol?
The makers of Meratol claim that this product:

That is what this report is all about! We will begin by examining the ingredients and finding out what the effects of each of them is from independent sources.

What are the Key Ingredients?
Meratol contains the following, which appear to be a naturally occurring ingredients:
- Capsicum (red pepper)
- Opuntia Ficus-Indica Cactus Plant (prickly pear)
- Brown Algae (from seaweed)
The Caffeine – Does this help?

Emphatically YES! A whole range of sources confirm that caffeine boosts the human metabolism and thus cause accelerated burning of calories. For instance, WebMD states this clearly:
“Some ingredients in energy drinks can give your metabolism a boost. They’re full of caffeine which increases the amount of energy your body uses.”
Just be careful if you have a tendency to high blood pressure

My research on this led me around the world, albeit on the web! Studying Indica Cactus, otherwise called the Prickly Pear, I found that most of the experimental work has been done in Mexico. There are many very positive claims for the fruit, and again, I ended up on WebMD where I found this:
Prickly pear cactus contains fiber and pectin, which can lower blood glucose by decreasing the absorption of sugar in the stomach and intestine. Some researchers think that it might also decrease cholesterol levels, and kill viruses in the body.
So the cactus decreases sugar absorption, from which we can infer that the general claim to lowering carbohydrate absorption is probably well-founded.
What’s Does the Capsicum Do – Is it Proven?
I do love spicy food, and capsicum is indispensable! But it’s also great diet food, as I found out when researching this review. The site SlimmingSolutionsUK has many very positive things to say about the role of capsicum in a weight loss regime – this is a sample:
Using this Capsicum plant in weight loss products enables your resting metabolic rate to increase. This is the measure of the energy used after a given duration of time. Having a high metabolic rate is vital to those that want to lose weight because those with a high metabolic rate, burn fat more than those with a low metabolic rate when the same physical exercise or activity is undertaken.
So, we seem to have another proven and valuable ingredient in our weight-loss regime. So far, I’m pleased – very pleased.
And the Brown Algea?
Most interestingly, this seems to be another appetite suppressant! Brown algea is essentially extracted from seaweed. Here is what the University of Copenhagen has to say on the matter:
A new research project conducted at the Faculty of Life Sciences (LIFE), University of Copenhagen, shows that dietary fibers from brown algae boost the sensation of satiety, thereby making people eat less and lose more weight. Previous studies have shown that a fibre-rich diet makes it easier to maintain weight, and now a new PhD project documents that dietary fibers from brown algae, the so-called alginates, are excellent at creating an ‘artificial feeling of fullness’ in the stomach
Whatever else then, the ingredients of Meratol are of good pedigree, and have been thoroughly researched for their efficacy as weight-loss agents.
What do Users of this Product Say?
This is a tricky one for me, as the only real proof is from independent sources who have used the product. So very carefully, I spent many hours online, seeking credible testimony. The first thing I did was to Google Meritol Scam - and I found nothing! This is a great start, as the product is into its third year on the market and a scam would be very, very visible. But scouring the Internet for results on this left me a bit cold, as there were simply too many rather biased reviews! However, when I focused on slimming clubs and blogs, I got much more credible results. In general, people speak well of the product. For example, here’s an extract from a discussion on netmums.com:
“I just bought a months supply and I am on my third day. Had a weigh this morning to see how I was doing and I have lost 3lbs. I am trying to be good as well, as it does recommend this (so could argue that I would have lost that anyway)”
“The main positive thing for me is that I am not hungry, it really takes away my appetite and it also makes me feel like I have pigged out even after having a small meal. Therefore I don’t have seconds and don’t have dessert.”
Here’s an extract from an Amazon review (there are only a few and no bad ones):
“So happy I purchased Meratol. Started to see results in 3 days with no negative side effects. Would definitely recommend to my friends.I don’t feel like I have had to deprive myself from eating anything that I wanted to. It’s especially useful for helping to cut down your portion sizes if you’re like me and have little self control when it comes to your favorite foods. I don’t even have to struggle to eat less as my stomach capacity seems to have reduced by itself.

Other reviewers say they lost weight but put it on later – haven’t we all been there?! But on balance I give the product the benefit of the usual doubts and think it is definitely worth trying.”
Whilst the reputation of this product is good, my investigation did turn up the fact that the manufacturer has been accused of exaggerating the claims for one of its products by the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK – but not this one. Meratol is marketed by Marlia Health of the United Kingdom (UK). I could find nothing else against them. They are a global manufacturer and distributor of vitamin supplements. This was the only negative claim I found about them, and I found no such official complaints about Meratol.

Meratol is comprised of safe, natural ingredients and many people claim that in a weight loss regime is helps quite considerably. There seem to be no serious complaints – and very few complaints at all about the product on the web, so it does seem to be a genuine product and not a scam. The ingredients of which Meratol is made have solid scientific evidence to back them up individually as contributors to weight loss, as I have shown with links to several independent and credible sources. The product is definitely worth trying, although I would always also advocate healthy eating and sensible exercise whilst on any diet and counsel against expecting miracles.
